CIPHER is now OPME

The Faculty of Medicine has recognised how important it is to be well represented in the reforms that are sweeping both prevocational and vocational Postgraduate training. We are pleased to announce the formation of the Office of Postgraduate Medical Education (OPME). This represents a significant investment by the Faculty on postgraduate medical and health science education. The OPME complements our sister Office of Medical Education (OME) which has as its primary goal the implementation of the changes arising out of the curriculum review and is led by Associate Professor Tessa Ho. One consequence of this change is that the group formerly known as CIPHER will cease to operate. The OPME will take responsibility on behalf of the Faculty for:

  • for strengthening the links with the Professional Colleges and the Postgraduate Medical Education Councils,
  • continue developing and delivering a first class Master of Medical Education.
  • establish close collaborative links with members of Faculty and others in the various Schools in the Faculty of Medicine and other Faculties who are also undertaking educational research.
  • develop opportunities to add to the Faculties growing reputation as a leader in the area of medical educational research.

Associate Professor Chris Roberts will lead the new group, which includes Merrilyn Walton, Jill Thistlethwaite, Charlotte Rees and Tim Shaw. We are pleased to announce that Associate Professor Simon Willcock will join us as the Coppleson Director of Clinical Education. This will bring Simon's extensive experience in this area and preserve the Coppleson name which has a good reputation in continuing medical education.

We look forward to continue working with both our existing collaborators and welcome the opportunity to work with new ones.

Associate Professor Chris Roberts
Head & Associate Dean (Educational Development)
